Western Container is a manufacturer of PET bottles and preforms for Coca-Cola bottling since 1979.
THE CHALLENGE:
Western Container has used Atlas Copco dry screws in the past to produce their low pressure air (150 psi). They communicated to us that they were having challenges with the reliability of their machines which was generating production losses. The compressor configurations did not lend themselves to energy efficiency due to limitations in technology at the time they were purchased and the large load profile of the facility. When choosing a replacement oil free compressor system, Western Container put a heavy focus on sustainability and running an energy efficient oil free compressor to minimize their operating costs.
THE CRU SOLUTION:
CRU PET Solutions’ PET Compressor Specialist Tony Marlow met with Western Container at their Sugar Land, Texas corporate office and did an in depth presentation on the high and low pressure line up of ABC compressors. He fully explained the energy benefits including the standard VFD drive. He was then invited to do the same presentation at their Fife, Washington facility. We were given a specification to bid to and eventually were awarded an order for a low pressure ABC HORIZON SYNCHRO unit for the Fife location.
THE RESULTS:
Western Container’s team is very happy with their new ABC HORIZON LP compressor system. They are exploring standardizing their LP oil free systems with our two stage, VFD systems to maximize energy efficiency and reliability. They plan to carry out an air audit to verify the savings in the near future!
